Editing Cuts for The Strangers

Kirsten ignores the knocking on the door and then moves to the bedroom to check if there is anything outside. The camera focuses on a door which has a light above it she is checking if there is anybody outside her house. This is a reaction shot as Kirsten checks outside after she has heard the knock on the door, this shot creates suspense for the audience as they know somebody is out there but they cannot see them. This lures the audience into a false sense of security.

Then Kirsten keeps walking away and checking the door the director has used a linking of a section shot. This creates an eerie suspense for the audience as it evokes the idea that the person will not go away from the door and the audience does not think the person at the door can come from any other way. This is a good device that the director has used as the audience will not expect somebody to scare the woman and therefore it scares the audience.

  1. This post needs to be completed so that there are 3 different points on editing styles. Also you need to write in the PEER format so that you comment on the codes and conventions of the thriller. This will enable your analysis to be more detailed.
